Volunteer Coordinator – Position Description

Volunteer Program

  • Generate and implement volunteer recruitment and retention strategies
  • Process Volunteer Applications
  • Facilitate Volunteer Orientation training
  • Maintain MS Access database
  • Coordinate with PPZ staff to schedule volunteer groups to assist with various Zoo projects
  • Prepare necessary materials using Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, Excel, Publisher and Access
  • Manage paper filing system for applications and other Volunteer Program related documents
  • Maintain regular communication with volunteers in order to preserve interest and ongoing support and engagement
  • Track volunteer hours and generate end-of-the-year reports
  • Produce monthly volunteer newsletter

Adopt-a-Garden Program

  • Generate and implement outreach strategies to recruit garden adopters and build the program
  • Assign interested garden adopters to garden plots within their abilities 
  • Collaborate with Zoo Horticulturist in order to maintain policies and procedures 
  • Enter Adopt-a-Garden information into database 
  • Manage paper filing system for Adopt-a-Garden related documents 
  • Track volunteer hours and generate end-of-the-year reports 

Event Team Associate

  • Assist in the preparation and operation of Zoo events
  • Recruit and assign volunteer tasks to staff all event functions
  • Layout event floor plans using MS Publications 
  • Assist in the set-up of tables, chairs, tents and other event related equipment
  • Check-in and provide direction to volunteers arriving for an event or project


Additional Duties

  • Schedule and process Pavilion reservations and payments 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
