Potter Park Zoo offers unpaid internships to college students or college graduates in animal related fields as well as those interested in hospitality, public safety and marketing. Potter Park Zoo allows job shadowing opportunities with zookeeping staff to allow participants to gain a better understanding of zoo careers. This program is open to students 13 years and older and is scheduled as time is avaiailble. Please allow at least two weeks for processing and scheduling of job shadow esperiences. Space is limited in this program and slots are filled on a first come, first serve basis for those submitting completed applications. Zoology, or related field, students in their third or fourth years of school are encouraged to apply for a semester long independent study for credit.
Students in their third or fourth (clinical) years of school are encouraged to apply for a 3-6 week preceptorship. There are no pre-veterinary externships available, students have to be in veterinary school or veterinary technology school to perform an externship in the veterinary department.
