Did You Know?
Magellanic penguins are named after Ferdinand Magellan who first discovered them in 1519.
When you’ve visited the zoo, have you ever noticed the smiling people wearing blue aprons sharing tidbits of information about the animals? Those are the Potter Park Zoo docents, a fantastic group of dedicated volunteer educators. Docents conduct tours, present animal programs like encounters, birthday parties, and Reading with the Animals, take the education animals on outreaches throughout the Greater Lansing area, and help with special events.
Would you like to join the zoo crew? Potter Park Zoo is currently recruiting for our 2014 docent class! Come check out our Docent Recruitment event Saturday January 11 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. You’ll have an opportunity to talk to education department staff, visit with experienced docents, meet some of the education animals, fill out an application, and find out more about the docent program. Zoo tours will also be available at the conclusion of the event. Hope to see you there!
Can’t make it on Saturday? Applications can be downloaded by clicking here and will be accepted until January 24.
