Magellanic penguins are named after Ferdinand Magellan who first discovered them in 1519.
Having spent the day exploring the wildlife and habitats of Great Lakes eco-region all over the world, you will have the opportunity to explore the ecology of the Red Cedar River directly adjacent to Potter Park Zoo. Home to reptiles, amphibians, fish, and waterfowl, the Red Cedar holds opportunities to enter the natural world and take part in hands-on conservation work. The centerpiece of the Ecology Center will be the existing wetlands, and a wet lab where you can investigate and experiment to better understand our surrounding environment. The Center will become a starting point for tours along the new boardwalks extending into the wetlands and connecting to the Lansing River Trail.
