Education
One of the most important
missions of the Potter Park Zoological Society is to educate the
public about the world's wildlife and what we all can do to help
preserve it. Toward that end, the Society has established a wide
array of fun and educational programs for both adults and children.
In addition to offering
tours of the zoo where you will be guided by volunteer educators
known as "docents" (these are the friendly men and women
wearing blue shirts or aprons), you can have docents visit your
classroom or organization, or you can have us come to special events
and talk about our animals--we'll even bring some with us! We also
have classes in our new Discovery
and Education Center.
Other fun programs include
our Sundown Safaris, where you
and the kids can camp out on the zoo grounds and get a tour, Zookambi,
where kids get lots of hands-on activities, our Teen
Keeper program, the new BIG Zoo Lesson,
and so much more!
New
ProgramV.E.Z.U.
Nope,
not a new species of antelope. It stands for Vets, Education,
Zoos and You! It is our latest educational program.
It combines a veterinarian, a vet student or tech and a Docent to
bring 3 levels of programming to schools. We are in partnership
with our wonderful friends at the MSU Vet Clinic and they are rarin'
to go! Response from the students visited has been extremely positive.
We are now planning on introducing it as an'on grounds' program
here at the zoo. Our Education Department!!!! I put it up against
any other zoo! We rock when it comes to teaching!!!

Did
you know there are over
4,300 species of mammals on
our planet? And there are
over 8,600 species of birds! We
can't house them all at the Potter
Park Zoo, but you can learn
about many of them by attending
one of our education programs!
If
you don't see a program
that meets your needs, then
you can design one yourself!
Feel free to contact
us
